Reveal Me. (March 2016)

Solo Art Show- Pittsburgh, PA

Acrylic, Oil, Plywood, Dental Plaster & Mixed Media.

"We often do not realize that we put a mask when we are interacting with others. We will wear masks to get through stressful times- we will wear makes when we are scared. We hide behind these layers of 'identieis' when we are at work and we are meeting strangers to keep them from seeing too much. There are thousands of masks and layers that we wear and sometimes all within one day."

This was my first solo show and without censorship you are looking at my self portrait. Each piece in my Art Therapy body of work in some way is revealing another layer within myself. I have finally started to remove the personal masks that I wear around.

The work is expressive, real, human and vulnerable- it is me.

35mm Photography

I have such a love for film photography. There is something about loading a camera with film, capturing a moment & then spending time to develope those pictures in a dark room. Possibly it is the amount of personal hands on work that goes into developing the photos, or the surprise of how the photos will turn out. Whatever it is, I am always left in awe with the final project.

I love the connection that Film Photography has with the past. In this day and age we are constantly moving towards a more digital world. Film however, preserves that one art technique from the past that has always created such beautiful images.

Where Have All The Bendays Gone? 1-5 (2011-2012)

My first exhibition project was inspired by the incredible 'Pop Art' Artist Roy Lichtenstein. His work was based on 1940's romance comicbooks, working to convey emotionally charged topics such as, love, death and war. By having such heavy topics in a comic book style the themes were easier to view, and understand by his viewers. Since Lichtenstein has worked to pull past 1940 themes to his present, I have worked to bring Lichtenstein's past work to our present.

Instead of using the 'Benday' process, I decided to use collage. The graphic novels: "Pride of Bagdad" and "Maus" used comic book style to write the stories of war in Bagdad and Nazi Germany using animals to tell the story. The use of graphic novel within each painting as well represents the "pop art" use of mass production. Just as pop art was mass produced, these graphic novels have been mass produced today filling many bookstore's shelves.

When the installation is fulling installed it is meant to resemble a comic book page. When it stands it is 14ft 8inches x 8ft 4inchess. Projects 1 & 2 (the center pieces) were made in 2011 and the other pieces, 3, 4 & 5 were finished in 2012.

Just a sample of my work. To see more or discuss possible work >>
